HBO Max has three plans in the United States, each sold by the month or by the year. Basic with Ads costs $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year, Standard costs $18.49 or $184.99, and Premium costs $22.99 or $229.99. The yearly plans save $21.89, $36.89 and $45.89 over twelve monthly payments. According to the plan page, Basic and Standard stream on two devices at once in Full HD, Standard adds 30 downloads, and Premium streams on four devices in 4K with Dolby Atmos and 100 downloads. HBO Max also comes in Disney's bundle with Disney+ and Hulu, at $21.99 with ads or $34.99 without. Prices read on HBO Max's own US page on November 1, 2026, list prices before any sales tax.

Which plan for whom
The three plans share the catalog; the differences are ads, screens, picture and downloads. Basic with Ads is the only plan with ads in films and series, at $10.99. Standard removes them for $7.50 more a month and allows downloads. Premium is for a household that watches in 4K or on more than two screens, at $4.50 above Standard. The page notes that ads are served on select live content on every plan.
Yearly plans
Each plan's yearly price is about ten months of the monthly price. The yearly Basic plan pays off from the 11th month. Someone who subscribes only for a season of one series, two or three months, pays less by the month and cancels; the rotation guide shows what that saves across several services.
From Max to HBO Max
The copies of max.com read for this site, from 2023 to June 2025, sell the service as Max, with plans called With Ads, Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad Free; the copy of hbomax.com of August 1, 2025 sells the same three plans as HBO Max Basic with Ads, Standard and Premium, at the same prices. The prices themselves moved twice: the two plans without ads rose between June 1, 2024 and July 1, 2024, by $1 a month, and all three rose between August 1, 2025 and November 1, 2025, Standard by $1.50. The ad plan stayed at $9.99 for more than two years before that.
