What the price buys

Plans at the same price differ in what they include, and the tiers are not built the same way from one service to the next. At Netflix, the higher plans add screens and picture quality; at HBO Max, the top tier adds 4K and more streams; at Peacock and Paramount+, the higher plan removes most ads and adds a part of the catalog, sports or Showtime. Disney+ sells its own plans and bundles with Hulu and HBO Max, which often cost less than two separate services. Each service page lists what its own price page says each plan includes.

Live TV services sit apart: they carry the broadcast and cable channels live and cost several times an on-demand plan. YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV are tracked here; the Hulu page shows how the Hulu + Live TV price has moved.

How the comparison is built

The tool above reads the same data as every page of this site: one price per plan, with the copy of the official page where it was read. The filter for ads relies on the plan's own name and description on that page. The sort is by monthly price; a plan sold only by the year would be divided by twelve, though every video plan tracked here can be paid monthly. To compare what each plan really costs you, the cost per hour calculator below divides a price by your viewing hours.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest streaming service in 2026?

Among the plans tracked here, $7.99 buys a Netflix extra member with ads, but only on top of an existing account. For a stand-alone subscription, the cheapest plans are around $9 a month with ads: Netflix Standard with ads, Peacock Select and Paramount+ Essential cost $8.99, $8.99 and $8.99.

Which streaming service has the best value without ads?

On price alone, Apple TV at $14.99 and HBO Max Standard at $18.49 are below Netflix Standard at $19.99. Value depends on what you watch; the cost per hour tool divides a price by your own viewing time, which is a better test than the list price.

Are prices the same in every state?

The list prices are national: the services show one US price. Sales tax on digital services depends on the state, and some local taxes apply, so the amount billed can be higher than the price shown here. Introductory offers can also differ from the list price.
